We did four hikes today! Mouse’s Tank, Rainbow Vista, Fire Wave, and White Dome. Scenic. Inspirational. Mind-blowing at times. They were not long hikes in terms of distance, probably in the six-mile range for total distance, nor were they very steep or physically challenging, but definitely, boots better than sneakers! More magic and wonder, especially parts of Fire Wave and White Dome. The coloring and lines of Fire Wave, something I don’t think I have ever seen before, amazing how nature, over millions of years, can create such a structure, which now provides us with wonder. Laura named on rock formation “whipped cream” based on its structure. She climbed to the top and reached for the sky. We reached the end of our hiking day buzzing in awe and wonder …
Earlier in the day, we had a good heart-to-heart talk about life and relatively recent happenings we had experienced with loss and pain. I talked more about losing Mom, family issues, being demonized by my siblings (except Richie), and the toll all of this had taken on me, and she talked about things in her life that had affected her greatly, too. We both said how glad we were to be doing this part of the trip together, how it helped to make things feel better, back more like normal self, so to speak. I think having that talk, it was a kind of bonding experience, and such sharing made the cycling, hiking, and frequent night-time walks under the stars, that much better.
