I arrived at Petrified Forest mid-afternoon. I stopped at the Painted Desert Visitor Center, on the north end of the park, and made my way towards the south end, where there is a privately run campground just outside the part. My friend Laura Butterworth made me aware of the campground last year in December. I drove through the park, a 28 mile drive, and reached a section called The Teepees just as the Sun was setting. This is the view on the side of the road opposite of the Teepee formations. It was a great sunset accentuating the scope of a the western landscape.
