Lake Mead National Recreation Area

November 12, 2022 and November 20, 2022

We left Valley of Fire on November 12 and headed to Lake Mead, to a campground named Las Vegas Bay. We did not leave at the same time, and somehow, we took different routes. Laura headed out the west entrance and went to I-15, while I took the east entrance and took a more scenic route. When I arrived at the campground, she was already there. We had our first campfire that night. Most campgrounds do not allow gathering of firewood, and at this point neither one of use had bothered to buy wood. Las Vegas Bay had no restriction about gathering wood, and Laura had worked diligently to gather up some. I have to say, it was nice, having a fire added another aspect to fun times.

We only stayed there one night. It was a stop-over on our way to Death Valley National park, which was about 150 miles away on the Nevada-California border. More fun and games to be had there, much more!

We came back to this campground again after a week at Death Valley, using it again as a stop-over point. Laura was flying to North Carolina to spend Thanksgiving with her Mom, daughters, and family. She was kind in inviting me as well! I opted to stay out west, uncertain about leaving my van somewhere and flying east for a week. It was sure a nice offer, though!

This time around, we both gathered firewood. We spent some time at it too, and we got an intense burn going a few times after heaping on wood. There is a photo below of one of these times. I am going to have to confess that Laura was responsible for adding so much fuel to this particular fireball. I determined she has a little bit of a firebug in her after this night.

The next day, we did a hike that had a trailhead right next to our campground. At the end of the trail, there was an X in white on the ground. We could not figure out what it might be for. Can you?
