Fire Wave Trail at Valley of Fire State Park has some of the most amazing rock formations. There are multiple thin layers of twisting sandstone that give the environment an energetically mystical quality. It is a short hike, 1.5 miles round-trip (out and back), mostly right across that sandstone, mostly flat if desired, but there are options to go off trail and explore different views and experiences. One can spend an hour or more contemplating the aesthetics, the beauty of it, as well as the science, the formation of the landscape over millions of years with the multiple layers of sediment deposited and the subsequent rising of the land resulting in the twisting of these colorful layers over time.
